This is a rare May 1966 issue of London's "PLAYS and PLAYERS" magazine featuring BARBRA STREISAND on the front cover. Miss Streisand had just opened in the Original West End production of the JULE STYNE and BOB MERRILL musical comedy "FUNNY GIRL" at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London. (The Original Broadway production opened March 26th, 1964 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City and ran for 1348 performances. The London production opened April 13th, 1966 and closed after only 112 performances when the producers confirmed that their star was pregnant.) ..... The musical marked the first starring role for BARBRA STREISAND as "Fanny Brice" and also starred MICHAEL CRAIG as "Nick Arnstein". Featured in the cast were KAY MEDFORD, LEE ALLEN, STELLA MORAY, RONALD LEIGH-HUNT, JACK CUNNINGHAM and ISABELLE LUCAS ..... DETAILS: The 76 page magazine measures 8 3/8" X 10 7/8" inches and includes the wonderful cover photo of BARBRA STREISAND, but with the exception of a listing in the "Playguide", no related articles or photos on "Funny Girl". The magazine includes features on "The Matchgirls", "The Performing Giant", "Double Bill", "The Insect Play", "The Owl and the Pussycat", "The Beaver Coat", Lionel Bart's "Twang!!", Tyrone Guthrie on "Theatre in the Television Age", "Pinter in Paris" and the complete text of Donald Howarth's "A Lily in Little India". Also includes wonderful advertising including the full page ad for MARY MARTIN starring in "HELLO, DOLLY!" at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (third scanned image) ..... CONDITION: With the exception of moderate creasing and minor edge wear, this rare publication is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to any collection. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
