    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut song below.) ....... This is a rare autographed November 17th, 1952 "On Stage" playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the VERNON DUKE and OGDEN NASH musical revue "TWO'S COMPANY" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The production would open December 15th, 1952 at the Alvin Theatre in New York City and run for only 90 performances.) ..... The musical starred the legendary BETTE DAVIS (who signed the title page) in her only Broadway musical stage appearance and featured HIRAM SHERMAN, NORA KAYE, BILL CALLAHAN, DAVID BURNS, STANLEY PRAGER, PETER KELLEY, GEORGE IRVING, MARIA KARNILOVA, ANN HATHAWAY, TINA LOUISE and ROBERT ORTON'S TEEN ACES ..... CREDITS: Music by VERNON DUKE ("Garrick Gaieties", "Ziegfeld Follies", "At Home Abroad", "Cabin in the Sky", "Jackpot", "The Littlest Revue", "Sadie Thompson", "Two's Company"); Lyrics by OGDEN NASH ("One Touch of Venus", "Sweet Bye and Bye", "The Littlest Revue", "Two's Company"); Sketches by CHARLES SHERMAN; Additional Lyrics by SAMMY CAHN; Sets designed by RALPH ALSWANG; Costumes designed by MILES WHITE; Choreographed by JEROME ROBBINS; Directed by JULES DASSIN; Produced by JAMES RUSSO and MICHAEL ELLIS ..... DETAILS: The sixteen page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors, but no cast photos ..... CUT SONG: The list of musical numbers includes "I Think You're Pretty, Too" which was cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or BETTE DAVIS fan. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
