I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare March 28th, 1938 program (playbill) from the two-week, Pre-Broadway engagement of the COLE PORTER, ROBERT KATSCHER and ROWLAND LEIGH musical "YOU NEVER KNOW" at the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The production would open September 21st, 1938 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City and run for only 78 performances.) ..... The musical starred CLIFTON WEBB, LUPE VELEZ and LIBBY HOLMAN and featured TOBY WING, REX O'MALLEY, CATHERINE

DETAILS: This four page playbill measures 3" X 8 1/2" inches, is printed on a light brown newsprint stock and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and list of musical numbers, but no cast photos or bios ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "By Candlelight", "Cafe Society", "I'll Black His Eyes" and "The Waiters" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing and minor edge wear, this rare program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
