This is a rare September 1956 playbill from the Off-Broadway revival of the ALEXANDER DUMAS FILS classic "CAMILLE" which played the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City. (The production opened September 15th, 1956 and closed after only two weeks of performances.) ..... Background: The play, which starred COLLEEN DEWHURST in the title role and ROBERT ELSTON as "Armand", was skewered by New York critics and rather than close after the first night, the producer decided to give free tickets to the USO. For the two weeks of its run, "Camille" played to packed houses of soldiers and sailors, just off ship or on leave.
