UBQ Industries - Active Elements™ Surface EtchConcrete cleaner and surface etch for prepping concrete surfaces
Active Elements™ - Surface Etch
is a concentrated phosphoric acid-based etching solution with special additives that have been developed to safely prepare concrete surfaces before applying concrete paint and sealers. Active Elements - Surface Etch gently removes topical laitance and creates a porous surface to increase the penetration of concrete paint and sealers.
It produces minimal fumes, is biodegradable and safe for use near grass and plants.
Use on:
• Garage floor prior to epoxy coating or sealer
• Any concrete prior to applying a pigmented stain, concrete paint, overlay, resurface, micro topping, stamped overlay
• Shiny power troweled concrete prior to Concrete Acid Stain application
Dilution Ratios:
(with clean water):
• When prepping for Sealers, Pigmented Stains, Epoxy Coatings, Overlays or Resurfacers
(1) Part Active Elements - Surface Etch to (4) Parts Clean water
• When prepping a very smooth floor for Concrete Acid Stain
(1) Part Active Elements - Surface Etch to (10) Parts Clean water
Coverage:
Apply at a rate of 100 square feet per gallon of solution.
Application
1. Sweep or blow off the surface to remove loose debris.
2. Remove any paint or sealers with Active Elements - Paint Strip.
3. Treat grease and/or oil spots with Active Elements - Degrease.
4. Allow surface to dry.
5. Apply Active Elements - Surface Etch using a sprinkler can. The solution will fizz on contact with the concrete. Be sure to completely and evenly saturate the concrete with the etching solution. Always start at the lowest point and work your way up to ensure fresh acid is being applied to dry concrete. Scrub the solution into the surface with a stiff bristle broom until the fizzing stops then rinse the surface with water. Do not allow the Active Elements - Surface Etch solution to dry on the concrete. If additional surface porosity is needed repeat Step 5.
6. Neutralize the surface using Active Elements - Neutralize (8oz in 5 gallons water) and scrub with a stiff bristle broom to scrub in the neutralizing solution then rinse with water. Use a wet vacuum to collect residue and waste water. Dispose in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations
7. Thoroughly scrub the surface. Interior floors require the use of a floor machine (buffer) with a black pad, sanding screen or coatings removal pad. Exterior concrete preparation requires the use of a pressure washer.
