    Description

This is a beautiful single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the Original Broadway production of the JEANINE TESORI, RICHARD MORRIS and DICK SCANLAN musical comedy "THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE" at the Marquis Theatre in New York City. (The production opened April 18th, 2002 and ran for 903 performances.) ..... Winner of six Tony Awards including "Best Musical", the show starred SUSAN EGAN in the title role, DIXIE CARTER (who joined the cast on February 24th, 2004), LESLIE UGGAMS, CHRISTIAN BORLE, KEVIN EARLEY, ANGELA CHRISTIAN, DAVID RHEE, FRANCIS JUE and LIZ McCARTNEY and the cast included ROBERT M. ARMITAGE, KEVIN BERNARD, CHARLIE BRUMBLY, MEGAN CAMPBELL, PAUL CANAAN, JESSICA DILLAN, MATT FARNSWORTH, LINDA GABLER, GREGG GOODBROD, JESSICA GROVE, SHANNON HAMMONS, TRIPP HANSON, AMY HEGGINS, LEAH HOROWITZ, JoANN M. HUNTER, DAVIS KIRBY, ALISA KLEIN, JONI MICHELLE, MICHELLE O'STEEN-VIVONA, RICHARD ROLAND, EMILY ROZEK, DAVID SPANGENTHAL, MATT WALL and RICHARD FENG ZHU ..... Side note: Before rehearsals began, the starring role had belonged to KRISTIN CHENOWETH, the director's original choice. When Miss Chenoweth got a television series, she had to back out and her understudy ERIN DILLY was offered the role of "Millie". After the first run-through at the La Jolla Playhouse, it became clear to the director that Miss Dilly was not ideally suited for the role, and the producers plucked SUTTON FOSTER from the chorus to take over. She played "Millie" for the entire tryout engagement, which received notices encouraging enough for the producers to bring the show to Broadway. Against the recommendations of many advisors, they decided to give the starring role of the .5 million production to the relatively unknown 27 year-old actress who would confirm their decision when on June 2nd, 2002 Sutton Foster stepped onto the stage of Radio City Music Hall to accept the Tony Award for "Best Actress in a Musical" ..... CREDITS: Book by RICHARD MORRIS and DICK SCANLAN based on the Original Story and Universal Pictures Screenplay by RICHARD MORRIS; New Music by JEANINE TESORI; New Lyrics by DICK SCANLAN; Sets designed by DAVID GALLO; Costumes designed by MARTIN PAKLEDINAZ; Choreographed by ROB ASHFORD; Directed by MICHAEL MAYER; Produced by MICHAEL LEAVITT, FOX THEATRICALS, HAL LUFTIG, STEWART F.
