I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare December 26th, 1966 playbill from the three-week, WORLD PREMIERE engagement of the KENWARD ELMSLIE and CLAIBE RICHARDSON musical "THE GRASS HARP" at the Trinity Square Repertory Theatre in Providence, Rhode Island. (It would be close to five years before the production would make it to Broadway, opening November 2nd, 1971 at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York City and surviving for only seven performances.) ..... Based on the TRUMAN CAPOTE novel, the cast included ELAINE STRITCH, BARBARA BAXLEY, LOUIS BEACHNER, CAROL BRICE, CAROL BRUCE, WILLIAM CAIN, DEBORAH COPPEL, DAVID DOYLE, JOANNA FEATHERSTONE, JAMES GALLERY, ALEXIS GANTRY, DONALD GANTRY, ED HALL, SKIP HINNANT, DAVID HOOKS, RICHARD KNEELAND, STEPHEN KNOX, JANICE MANCINI, ADAM MILLER, WILLIAM PARANT, ELLEN SALTER, SCHORLING SCHNEIDER and ALEXANDER WOLFSON ..... The 24 page playbill measures 5 3/4" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors and members of the creative team, but no cast photos ..... CUT SONG: The list of musical numbers includes "Brazil", "Cool Cool Elbow", "A Gentle Sufficiency of Abundance", "I Trust the Wrong People", "Miss Got Rocks", "One Thing In Particular", "Spit 'n Whittle", "The As Has Gits", "Where's My Sister" and "Yoofry" which were cut before opening on Broadway .....
