This is a rare June 1964 playbill from the Summer Stock engagement of the RICHARD RODGERS and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II musical "THE SOUND OF MUSIC" at the Valley Forge Music Fair in Devon, Pennsylvania. (The Original Broadway production opened November 16th, 1959 at New York's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, moved to the Mark Hellinger Theatre on November 6th, 1962 and ran for 1433 performances.) ..... The musical starred GLORIA De HAVEN as "Maria Rainer", the role originated on Broadway by MARY MARTIN and featured KENNETH HARVEY, LIZABETH PRITCHETT, RITA MORLEY, KATHY DUNN, PHILIP PROCTOR, NAN McFARLAND, MICHAEL GORRIN, GRANT GORDON, ROY MONSELL and DICK O'NEILL ..... Side Note: "THE SOUND OF MUSIC" tied with the Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick musical "FIORELLO!" in four different 1960 Tony Award categories including "Best Musical" .....
