    Description

This is a large clipped newspaper advertisement promoting ticket sales for the two-week, National Tour engagement of the JONATHAN LARSON musical "TICK, TICK ... BOOM!" at the Shubert Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. (The
    Original Off-Broadway
    production opened May 23rd, 2001
at the Jane Street Theatre in New York City
and ran for 215 performances before going on the road.) ..... The musical starred WILSON CRUZ, CHRISTIAN CAMPBELL and NICOLE RUTH SNELSON .....
Written by JONATHAN LARSON, the Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of "Rent", the musical tells the story of an aspiring composer named "Jon" who lives in New York City in 1990. Jon is worried that he has made the wrong choice in pursuing a career in the performing arts. The story, according to the composer's father, is autobiographical. Larson had been trying to establish himself in theatre since the early 1980's. "Tick, Tick ... Boom!" was originally produced as a solo work in September 1990 at the Off-Broadway Second Stage Theatre and in November 1991 at the Village Gate Theatre. Larson performed the show as a "rock monologue", a new form of theatre at the time. His performance attracted the attention of a young producer named Jeffrey Seller, who became a fan of Larson's work. In early 1996, he saw the New York Theatre Workshop production of Larson's musical "Rent" and convinced his fellow producers to bring it to Broadway. After Larson's death in 1996, producer Victoria Leacock asked David Auburn, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Proof", to reconfigure "Tick, Tick ... Boom!" Auburn restructured the monologue into a three actor musical, with one actor playing "Jon", and the other two actors playing "Michael" and "Susan" as well as several additional roles in the show. The revised show premiered at New York's Jane Street Theatre on May 23rd, 2001 and has since been seen throughout the United States and in productions in London, Seoul, Tokyo, Toronto, Copenhagen, Cologne and Madrid as well as in the Philippines, Hungary, Mexico and the Netherlands
