This is a rare November 25th, 1940 broadside (single page playbill) from the Players' Theatre Benefit revival of the NOEL COWARD plays "TONIGHT AT EIGHT-THIRTY" at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco, California. (The Original Broadway production opened November 24th, 1936 at New York's National Theatre and ran for 118 performances.) ..... The one-week engagement was a Benefit for the British War Relief Assocition. A cycle of nine one-act plays by NOEL COWARD, the plays were performed in various combinations of three at each performance. The plays chosen were announced in advance and the cast included JOAN FONTAINE, PHILIP MERIVALE, GLADYS COOPER, PETER GODFREY, JEAN CAGNEY, JOHN HALLORAN, HELEN CHANDLER, JOHN GARRICK, C. AUBREY SMITH, REGINALD GARDINER, DORIS LLOYD, HEATHER ANGEL, DAME MAY WHITTY, BRIAN AHERNE, BENITA HUME and PETER BRONTE ..... CREDITS: Book by NOEL COWARD; Musical Numbers composed by NOEL COWARD; Sets designed by ROBERT EDMOND JONES; Directed by PETER GODFREY, MARGARET WEBSTER and JAMES WHALE; Produced by THE PLAYERS' THEATRE .... DETAILS: The single page, two-sided playbill measures 5 7/8" X 13 3/4" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and schedule of upcoming attractions, but no cast photos or bios ..... CONDITION: With the exception of horizontal folds, corner creases and several tiny edge tears, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
