This is a rare May 10th, 1960 playbill from the National Tour engagement of the RICHARD RODGERS and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II musical "FLOWER DRUM SONG" at the Riviera Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. (The production opened December 1st, 1958 at the St. James Theatre in New York City and ran for 600 performances while simultaneously playing on the road.) ..... The ensemble cast included JUANITA HALL (shown in the cover photo), ELAINE DUNN, KEYE LUKE, ED KENNEY, JACK SOO, CELY CARRILLO, BILL SUGIHARA and SUZANNE LAKE ..... CREDITS: Music by RICHARD RODGERS; Book and Lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II (Rodgers & Hammerstein collaborated on "Oklahoma!", "Carousel", "The King and I", "Me & Juliet", "South Pacific" and "The Sound of Music" among others); Sets designed by OLIVER SMITH; Costumes designed by IRENE SHARAFF; Choreographed by CAROL HANEY; Staged by GENE KELLY; Produced by RICHARD RODGERS and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN 2nd in association with JOSEPH FIELDS ..... DETAILS: The twelve page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors but with the exception of the front cover, no cast photos ..... CONDITION: This playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
