This is a rare February 4th, 1945 "Stagebill" playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the TENNESSEE WILLIAMS drama "THE GLASS MENAGERIE" at the Civic Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. (The production would open March 31st, 1945 at the Playhouse Theatre in New York City and run for 563 performances.) ..... The play starred LAURETTE TAYLOR as the "Mother" (in what many describe as the most riveting performance in Broadway history) and featured EDDIE DOWLING, JULIE HAYDON and ANTHONY ROSS ..... CREDITS: Book by TENNESSEE WILLIAMS ("The Glass Menagerie", "A Streetcar Named Desire", "The Rose Tattoo", "Summer and Smoke", "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", "The Night of the Iguana"); Original Music composed by PAUL BOWLES; Sets designed by JO MIELZINER; Costumes designed by BROOKS; Staged by EDDIE DOWLING and MARGO JONES; Produced by EDDIE DOWLING and LOUIS J. SINGER ..... DETAILS: The sixteen page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, bios of each of the actors and the playwright and wonderful vintage advertising but with the exception of the front cover, no cast photos ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) There are the start of seam splits at both the top and bottom, a vertical fold and a chipped corner at the bottom seam. Despite these flaws, this rare playbill will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
