This is a rare advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the release of the recording "JUDY GARLAND AT HOME AT THE PALACE OPENING NIGHT" on ABC Records. The handbill was distributed at New York's Palace Theatre during the landmark concert engagement. (The concert engagement began on July 31st, 1967, the night the recording was made, and ran for a limited engagement of 24 performances.) Judy was supported by JOHN BUBBLES, JACKIE VERNON and FRANCIS BRUNN ..... In a career that spanned more than forty years, JUDY GARLAND (1922 - 1969) performed on stage, screen and television and her live performances were legendary. Although Garland appeared in concert as early as 1943, it was only when her film career stalled that she began regular concert appearances, beginning with a critically acclaimed 1951 concert series at the London Palladium. Garland then set a record when she appeared for 19 weeks at the Palace Theatre in New York City, also in 1951, and her 1961 concert "Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall" is often described as one of the greatest nights in show business history. She returned to the Palace Theatre in 1956 and 1967 and continued to tour until just three months prior to her death in 1969 ..... DETAILS: Advertising handbills (heralds) were distributed or inserted into the playbills of other productions to help generate ticket sales for upcoming shows and events. This single page, one-sided handbill measures 8 1/2" X 11" inches and includes a wonderful photo of JUDY GARLAND and recording details. The backside is blank .....
