    Description

This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting
the 1921 Edition of the "ZIEGFELD MIDNIGHT FROLIC"
at the Theatre Danse de Follies" atop the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. (The production opened November 17th, 1921 and ran for 123 performances.) ..... The "ZIEGFELD MIDNIGHT FROLIC" was a late-night series that Florenz Ziegfeld staged in the New Amsterdam's intimate rooftop theater, "Danse de Follies". It featured a glass runway that let the chorus girls parade over the audiences heads, wearing tasteful ankle-length linen bloomers. A genuine hit, Ziegfeld produced a fully revised edition each year beginning in 1915. Ziegfeld produced two editions in 1921, but Prohibition and changes in popular taste kept attendance down and made this the last regular year for the
    Frolic
. Ziegfeld would stage one further edition in 1928. (Wikipedia) ..... The 1921 edition featured WILL ROGERS, LEON ERROL, CARLOS and INEZ, GLORIA FOY, JOHN STEEL, ALEXANDER GRAY, LUCILLE LAYTON, CARL RANDALL, CARLETTA RYAN, the SHAW SISTERS and MURIEL STRYKER ..... CREDITS: Music and Lyrics by GENE BUCK and DAVE STAMPER; Orchestra conducted by MAX FISHER; Staged by LEON ERROL; Produced by FLORENZ ZIEGFELD, Jr.
..... DETAILS: Advertising handbills (heralds) were distributed or inserted into the playbills of other productions to help generate ticket sales for upcoming shows and events.
